The Abenaki Indians lived in the White Mountains and some of these tribes and their chiefs’ names were used long ago as the American Indian left their footprint in the area–Penacook, Pequawket, Pemigewasset, Kancamagus, Passaconaway and Chocornua all reflect the indian culture still whispered in the winds of New Hampshire.
